Gustav Mahler: Adagio from Symphony No. 10 (2011)
Overview
In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Mahler’s birth and just one month short of his own 85th birthday, composer-conductor Pierre Boulez marked his forty-five-year collaboration with the Cleveland Orchestra by directing this very special Mahler-only concert at Ohio’s splendid Severance Hall. Following the Adagio from the unfinished Tenth Symphony, he presented Twelve Songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn with soloists Magdalena Kožená and Christian Gerhaher, both much-sought-after opera and concert singers on the world’s leading stages.

Mr Wong's Adventures with the Unruly Girl
The film is adapted from Chinese classic comic series Mr Wong, with Tang Bik-wan joining hands with the magnificent Sun Ma Si-tsang and Tam Lan-hing to give a dazzling performance. Scenes in which Hui plays pranks on him and tricks him into providing funds for her are spiced up by the lively acting of Sun Ma as a wife-fearing perv and Tang as a sassy girl with a sharp tongue. The film ends with Wong making excuses to meet Hui at a hotel but getting caught by his feisty wife. Whilst both are acclaimed comedians in their own right, brassy Tam and composed Tang together pull Sun Ma's leg in an unmissable classic slapstick.

Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1 with Sir András Schiff
Sir András Schiff performs Beethoven’s dramatic Piano Concerto No.1 on a stunning model of a historic 1822 fortepiano. Schiff describes Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, Op. 15 from 1795 as “absolutely huge in its concept for that time. I've always thought that there's something Shakespearean about Beethoven in the way comedy, tragedy, drama, and tenderness are all present at the same time.” Filmed in black and white, this concert is a beautiful showcase of craftsmanship and musicality. Schiff sits at a period-accurate recreation of a historic 1822 fortepiano crafted by Conrad Graf. He is joined by The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment for a captivating, historically informed, performance. This concert was filmed on 6 June 2022 at Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall in London.
